Located amidst the captivating Alpine beauty of St. Moritz, my recent stay at Suvretta House Hotel felt like a journey into a storybook castle. Since its grand opening in 1912, this winter palace has gone through continuous renovation and expansion allowing it to remain a pinnacle of luxury and a safe keeper of historical events. In 1919, the dancer Vaslav Nijinsky gave his last public performance in the ballroom. A sense of timeless elegance emerges as the turrets arise from the trees of the Upper Engadine Mountains.
The Belle Époque exterior welcomes guests in 171 elegantly furnished rooms and 10 spacious suites, exuding a charm that’s both regal and alluring, that continues throughout the various restaurants, bars, and spa areas. From my window, the view of the towering, rugged mountains and serene lakes emphasise the warmth and civility of the interior.
As an avid skier, the convenience of Ski In & Ski Out access with a private lift made for a seamless winter adventure, while the hotel’s ice skating rink and curling fields add to the seasonal charm. A 25-metre swimming pool, outdoor whirlpool, sauna, solarium, and indulgent spa treatments allow for a true level of relaxed appreciation of the breathtakingly beautiful surroundings.
Dining experiences at Suvretta House are varied enough to experience a different mood each evening, while in keeping with a uniquely Swiss precision and balance. From the culinary mastery of Executive Chef Fabrizio Zanetti and his impressive 16 Gault&Millau points at The Grand Restaurant, to the cosy ambiance of Anton’s bar with its classic cocktails and live music, reminiscent of the friendly ambiance of ski clubs of the past. The Suvretta Stube, curated by Head Chef Kevin Fontana, offers a culinary journey through Swiss classics and Grisons delicacies, in a more informal mode.
With a plethora of activities and experiences to make every moment intense and simply, fun, this hidden gem amidst the Swiss Alps truly embodies the essence of hospitality and elegance.
