Le Comptoir du Relais

Le Comptoir du Relais

Yves Camdeborde is called “the pope” of “bistronomie”. Years ago he quit his career of “chef étoilé”  at Crillon and went for the democratization of gastronomy by opening La Régalade. Since 2005 Yves Camdeborde runs Le Comptoir du Relais ( 9 carrefour de l’Odéon, 75006, tel. 01 44 27 07 97), a charming bistro in Saint-Germain. The bistro doesn’t take reservations for lunch, so when I came a few minutes to 12, people were waiting outside already. It is a pretty popular place

Different than the minimalistic menu at Le Temps au Temps (just a board on a wall with daily menu), here you will find everything, like”salade niçoise a ma façon”, “Croque monsieur vache qui rit dinde” or simply a plate of “saucisson” or a can of “sardines” (I’ve never been here at night, but as far as I know in the evenings Yves Camdeborde serves more elaborate dishes and you do need to book in advance.) There is lots of meat and especially pork, so I happened to order pork twice. Overall I loved the bistro and together with La Régalade (since Yves Camdeborde left, Bruno Doucet is in charge), these are the places in Paris that I will return with pleasure.

Pork knuckle with piquillos
Pork knuckle with piquillos – suprisingly very refreshing.
Poached and raosted suckling pig
Poached and raosted suckling pig- it was not as fat as it might seem from the first sight. On the contrary-very good.
