The three Michelin stars Jean Georges was the most boring and “factory like” gastronomic restaurant I have ever dined. It doesn’t come any close to the three or even two Michelin stars” institutions” in France and in Europe while in New York I could name at least five gastronomic restaurants that are much better than the main restaurant of Jean Georges Vongerichten.
Not even one dish really stood out that was worth to remember, starting with the amuse-bouche…
The “egg caviar” with vodka cream was as good as an egg with high-quality caviar can be. Not more.
Go to any decent Japanese restaurant in New York and you will have better tuna sashimi than “yellowfin tuna ribbons, avocado, spicy radish, ginger marinade”. The strangest part of the dish- the spaghetti-like form of the tuna. Also, I don’t think that the thin slices of radish complimented the raw tuna in any way.
“Pan-seared foie gras, fall spices and concord grape”. Simple and very classical. I don’t expect creativity of El Bulli each time I go to a three Michelin stars restaurant, but, still, some effort is appreciated…
“Black sea bass crusted with nuts and seeds, sweet and sour jus”. I forgot how it tasted already… (The dinner was yesterday)
What I found most unbelievable was how fast the “Strawberry” dessert (you can see of what it consisted on the website) was served. I guess it was all prepared in advance and I could say that by tasting it…
I should give some credit for the nice location and sensible, professional service. Also, the bad light didn’t do justice for the images above. But, apart from that, my overall experience was very disappointing…
